The ingredients needed to make Bison Lasagna:
- Prepare 1 lb. Ground Bison Meat
- Make ready 1 small onion, diced
- Take 1 pkg. lasagna noodles
- Make ready 1 large carton cottage cheese
- Make ready 1 1/2 jar spaghetti sauce
- Get 1-2 packages shredded mozzarella cheese
- Get to taste salt, pepper, garlic,
- Take spinach (optional)
Prepare lasagna noodles as directed on package. I'll admit that this luscious slow cooker lasagna doesn't look that light - but it truly is! How is that possible with all that cheese on top, you ask. And the answer is: fresh mozzarella is very low in calories and sodium, and so is ricotta cheese, plus, grass-fed bison is leaner than ground beef or sausage, which makes it possible for all of us to cut calories and sodium without sacrificing.
Instructions to make Bison Lasagna:
- Brown ground bison and onion until cooked. Season the meat while it's cooking with salt, pepper and garlic. Drain (if needed) and add spaghetti sauce and extra garlic if desired.
- Cook lasagna noodles according to package. Spray the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish.
- Begin layering the ingredients beginning with the noodles. Use 4-5 overlapping noodles on bottom layer. Follow with 1/3 of the meat mixture, 1/3 of cottage cheese and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. The toppings will not cover noodles completely. It should just be random.
- Continue with layers until you have done 3 total. The last addition of cheese should cover the entire top.
- Bake in 350*F oven for 40 minutes or until top is browned.
- IMPORTANT: Let stand 5-10 minutes before cutting for best results.
Add half of the bison sauce. Bring a pot with water to a boil for cooking the lasagna pasta. Brown the ground bison in a large sauce pot breaking up the meat as it cooks. Add the spaghetti sauce mix, all tomato products and sugar to the browned bison and mix well. Add water as needed to achieve desired consistency.
